It is time to bridge the gap between your phone system and two way radio users. With a modern phone system such as 3CX, you can easily connect phones with two way radios. When you integrate both systems, you will be able to page phones and speakers from radios and call radios from your phone. If you have a modern phone system, you can even use the mobile app to call radios from anywhere in the world.

Endless Options

  • Need security ASAP? Call the radio extension from your desk or mobile phone.
  • Car rider line needs help? Page the campus for assistance from your radio.
  • Need a bus to stop or turn around? Call the radio directly from your mobile phone.

Getting Started

  1. Have a PBX that is SIP compatible. This is common for any modern phone system.
  2. Purchase a radio over internet protocol (RoIP) gateway.
  3. Depending on your RoIP, you will need a “donor” radio. This is what the RoIP will use to call and receive audio with.
  4. Purchase a cable that is compatible with your radio and RoIP gateway.
  5. Once you gather everything above, you need to create an extension the RoIP gateway will use and connect the “donor” radio.
  6. For testing, you can call the phone extension assigned to the gateway and it should relay the message over the “donor” radio.

Tips and Tricks

  • Use multicast relay to create the ability to page phones and speakers from a radio.
  • Plan ahead for how many radio channels you will need.
  • Use a busy lamp field (BLF) on your desk phones so staff can call the two way radios.
  • Reserve a block of phone extensions across all your school locations so that you can add to the system and have a simple unified extension plan. For example, location 200 radio extensions are 220-229 and location 300 are 320-329.
